About Gary

Looking back I believe that my upbringing in the Wimmera was certainly a foundation for my art work.
As a child my family would take us into the Grampians National Park to explore the native flora and fauna.
My parents were advocates of taking care of the environment and taught all of us to appreciate the fact that we could get so close to the native wildlife.
I can remember spending hours watching many types of honeyeaters flitting around our gardens, watching in amazement, the soaring grace of wedge tailed eagles as well as other birds of prey, watching the comical antics of large flocks of galahs go by.
When I turned ten my parents gave me a magnificent book on birds, I would sit up at night studying and reading all about them. I knew then that I wanted to draw these beautiful creatures as well as our other native animals.
My father encouraged me draw at an early age for which I am eternally grateful, if it was not for his encouragement and seeing the pleasure in his eyes when I drew something special my art would not be were it is today.
Under the guidance of Steve Morvell one of Australia's premier wildlife and pastel artists I have developed my ability to produce these works of art.
