About Jane

I have been painting ever since I can remember, an avid animal lover, my favorite subject as a child was horses, my love of Golden Retrievers began when I had one as a family pet in the early 80's.

Born in England, I  grew up in New Zealand.  I studied art and art history at Palmerston North Girls High School, and then pursed other interests, gaining a Bachelor of Agriculture at Massey University.  Art took a back seat for many years, with work, family and travel commitments, but that urge to paint again has always been lurking in the back ground.

My husband and I settled in Ballarat Victoria, Australia where we now live. We have established a successful kennel and breed and show Golden Retrievers under the Camuka prefix. My love for this breed  lead to my desire to paint Golden’s.

I also worked as a veterinary nurse, so surround myself with animals and I have a great love and compassion for all creatures great and small. We regularly treat wildlife as well as domestic animals so I enjoy working with some of Australia's  diverse wildlife close up.

Although more known for my animal paintings, a recent trip to my homeland New Zealand, gave me the opportunity to study the landscapes and I have really enjoyed this freer style of painting, Many of my works also have water in them, I love to create the feeling water can give.

I paint to please myself, and to give others joy.  I think it is very important to be true to the joy of painting.

Although I am self taught,  I studied art throughout school and in 2005  decided to take my art more seriously and begun attending classes with world renowned wildlife artist Steve Morvell. I am  enjoying developing my art skills, especially with pastels, which I find a fantastic medium to use.  I am grateful to Steve for his tuition and patience over the past year. I have recently begun to exhibit my art work in local shows & exhibitions and am very flattered with several awards, and people's positive feed back.

My works can be found in private collections in Australia, New Zealand, UK and USA.
